The Village of West Point
Where it all began...and continues!
I have always been interested in building boats, as well as preserving a bit of the history of West Point, where I make my home.
The West Point Skiff™ design evolved from the inshore fishery requirement for a small but seaworthy boat to work the waters close to ledges and islands in all weather. The design by Amos Wallace in the early 1900's was handed down to his son Alton, who modified it and built over 200 boats in the village of West Point, hence the name.
The design for the boats I build is from
an 18-foot West Point Skiff™ that I own
and use to fish for lobster. It was built in 1969 by Alton Wallace (1909-1995),
who I knew well.
